Good Neighbor Award Q1 – Project Promise, through a collaboration with our members we were able to donate $5,000 towards the future home of Project Promise.
Once completed, the building will be more than “just” a home for Project Promise. It will also serve as a community center with classrooms, a computer lab, a full kitchen, a laundry center, a multipurpose room, office space, and more.
Project Promise is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization incorporated on January 24, 2014 under the laws of the United States Virgin Islands. We were founded to address the many challenges facing our youth. Due to failing schools, decreased opportunities, and an increase in at-risk behavior the need for positive support services is imperative at this time. The goal of the program is to identify those youth who are experiencing adolescent hardships and may have a rough transition into adulthood. Project Promise offers positive support services to avoid the stumbling blocks that can negatively impact their lives.
From life coaching and personal wellness to academic tutoring, community service, cultural programs, family services and more, Project Promise gives St. Croix’ at-risk youth an opportunity for positive change in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment, by introducing them to our natural resources, our history and culture, and our most valuable resource, themselves.
Good Neighbor Award Q2 – The St. Croix Board of Directors through a vote decided to make the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center our second-quarter $1,000 non-profit charity recipient.
The St. Croix Animal Welfare Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, operating on the island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands.
Their mission is to provide and promote the humane treatment of animals through humane education, animal protection, and community service.
This time of year they traditionally see a higher number of animals arriving at the shelter, but this year the numbers are extraordinarily high. Compared to June 2020, they took in 34% more homeless animals in June 2021 for a total of 268 dogs and cats bringing the January-June 2021 total to 1,352 dogs and cats who have entered the shelter.
We were honored to partner with these charities and to highlight the amazing work they do and the partnerships our members have formed throughout the community. We look forward to showcasing more of these achievements in the coming months!
